White Christmas

Christmas morning seemed a little more picturesque this year with the frosted tree branches and relatively warmer temperature ( -15C compared to -40C from two weeks before). Anyhow, this was the view from right outside our front door on Christmas morning.

Beaver Creek, Colorado

Last week, I did something I've never done before, I took a week off headed up to Denver accompanied by no one else. It's a great place to clear your head and to take a break from reality. You learn a thing or two about yourself in solitude. I stayed at Beaver creek, a vacation home which was generously offered by our company CEO. This shot was taken when I was on top of a mountain, overlooking the European style villages.

I managed an event for Yoplait last week where we gave away over 10,000 yogurt cups at the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure here in Dallas. These were all the volunteers that selflessly helped out at the event. This was the first time I attended a race let alone manage an event for Yoplait. It was pretty neat to be part of something bigger than us, witness volunteers who wanted to do as much good as they could for as long as they could.

Our very own Betsy got hitched over the weekend, Congrats to both Jacob and Betsy for finding each other. So Betsy now that you are married I hope that frees up some time to update oonny, ;) Speaking of which It has been over 6 months since my last post. You go a week, and it turns into a month; you go a month and it turns into half a year, My excuse is really my new computer (which doesn't have my old pictures) and a broken camera. But 6 months is a long time and thanks to Manoj who keeps the blog alive from time to time. But that's not the topic at hand, it's the wedding.Cheers to the newly wed! Welcome to the family Jacob. Betsy, I'll have to find new ways to make fun of you. :)

As much as I enjoy seeing my little boy and my dad here, I figured it was time to have something different ... as boring as this picture may seem. What is this? This is my extremely messy desk ... and on screen is the admin page for Oonny.org with this write up waiting to upload after I take the picture. Make Sense? This was taken with my blackberry ... so the quality's not that great ... however it is something different.

May 1968 marked my father's arrival in Western Canada and with that the arrival of the Parayanthara family in North America. Although his official name was Parayanthara Thomas Mathew, he recognized the challenges the Syrian Christian naming order would present in North America, and therefore made a change and became Thomas Parayanthara Mathew. As is the case with many 2nd generation Malayalees, the family (or house) name never made it into my official name. The result is that many of our family names are at risk of disappearing forever. Although Parayanthara does not appear on my birth certificate, the fact that I come from this family is something I proudly recognize and pray that my son will also embrace. Here we have Thomas Parayanthara Mathew spending time with his 2 day old grandson, Thomas Jacob Kurian Mathew.

Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Here, great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert and created the world's largest gypsum dune field. Found it very hard to take even a decent picture that captures the only two colors at white sands, white and blue.. The glare from the sand and the sun was out of this world..no wonder they use the location to shoot sci-fi movies. Posted is a “photoshopped” version, trying a hand at sand boarding!

Normally I would wait awhile before posting again ... but I just HAD to get this one up. We are located at one of the highest points in Edmonton which make lightning storms quite a spectacle. Last night we had a wicked storm move through and I finally took the time to setup the camera to see what I could get. This shot (8 second time exposure); taken from our bedroom window turned out pretty good I'd say. How close was that strike you ask? I figure about 2 blocks. Although I got a number of strikes, many of them didn't turn out that great - the result of a 3.2 Megapixel camera - I am therefore on the hunt for a new camera!

I have spent many hours in the Rocky Mountains just sitting around and enjoying the scenery. But what I enjoy most of all is the silence while staring at the awsome spectacle of the mountains. How do you top that? Take a boat out into the middle of a mountain lake, turn the engine off and enjoy the silence, the cool breeze, the spray of water and the awsome wonder of God's creations. This shot was taken on a hot Sunday afternoon in the middle of Harrison Lake, British Columbia
